Nov, 29th
Vladimir Sorokin, author of the bestseller "The Tale," will speak in Riga on November 29th.

On November 29th, a meeting will be held in Riga with Vladimir Sorokin, one of the most famous and influential writers of modern Russian literature, the author of the best—selling book of the year, "The Fairy Tale." The program of the evening includes reading fragments of a novel, talking to the audience and an autograph session. This is a rare opportunity to hear the living word of the author, who for decades has remained the main provocateur and prophet of Russian literature, the creator of texts that changed the perception of literature at the turn of the XX—XXI centuries.

Sorokin is a legendary figure: his books have been translated into dozens of languages, they are published in the world’s largest publishing houses and are included in the programs of European and American universities. The author of "Blue Fat", "Day of the Oprichnik", "Telluria" and "Norma" has been shaping the cultural landscape for several decades, destroying the usual framework and re-constructing the literary language. His work is revolutionary and free, it opens up unexpected horizons for understanding man and society.

"The Tale", like Sorokin’s previous book "Legacy", which was banned in Russia, was published by the independent publishing house Freedom Letters. The writer’s new novel is a parable, wild and charming, ruthless and poignant. In "The Tale," a gloomy post—apocalyptic Russia comes to life, where garbage fields become a territory of hope, and a trip through a landfill is a path to sacred transformation.

Sorokin guides the reader through the purifying absurdity: from the terrifying prose of corruption to glimpses of grace. "The Tale" is a new epic about the Russian consciousness: vicious and bright, humiliated and dreaming.

The novel became the most discussed literary event of the year, a philosophical reflection on power, faith, and human nature.

An evening in Riga is not only a meeting with a key figure of modern Russian prose, but also an opportunity to touch the living literature of freedom. Books by the independent publishing house Freedom Letters, which publishes the most daring texts and voices banned in Russia, will be available for purchase at the evening.
