LEONID PARFYONOV’S AUTHOR’S EVENING.
The premiere of the documentary film NABOKOV, A GOOD RUSSIAN and the presentation of the new volume of NAMEDNI 2021−2025
“NABOKOV, A GOOD RUSSIAN”
The film tells the story of the famous writer’s emigrant fate: the son of aristocratic St. Petersburg, the last author of the Silver Age, an exile moving from one country to another, he became a leading figure in world literature of the 20th century and an iconic author in Russia in the 21st century. The main theme of the narrative is loyalty to one’s calling and the choice made once and for all: Nabokov was firmly convinced that he was a true Russian patriot writer, and that the socialist system in his homeland and the Soviet literature it had spawned were a bitter historical absurdity that would eventually disappear.
The filming took place in Cambridge, Berlin, Paris, Cornell University (New York), and Montreux. In the film’s game episodes, Vladimir Nabokov and his wife Vera are portrayed by Maxim Sukhanov and Chulpan Khamatova. Tracks by Noize MC and Monetochka, set to Nabokov’s poems, are featured.
