On December 6th, anthropologist Alexandra Arkhipova will give a lecture-game "The Origin of Christmas and New Year" in Prague.

Is it true that a decorated Christmas tree is an ancient custom? Why did they hang apples, sweets and angels on the Christmas tree? Who is Santa Claus and why does he ride reindeer? On whose side did he participate in the Civil War between the North and the South? Why do children read poetry to Santa Claus? And where did the olivier salad on the New Year’s table come from?

The meeting with social anthropologist Alexandra Arkhipova will be held in the format of an interactive quiz game. The audience will not only learn how our usual holiday has been formed over five centuries, but will also be able to build their own hypotheses.

Your children (starting from about 12 years old!) It will be interesting too.

Alexandra Arkhipova is an anthropologist and folklorist, PhD in Philology, author and creator of the (Non)Entertaining Anthropology channel.

In the second part of the meeting, the audience will be able to ask their questions.
