Anton Dolin — one the most significant Russian film critics.
He is well known for his work as Editor in Chief in "Iskusstvo Kino" magazine as well as for his shows on the Radio and TV including Late Night show with Ivan Urgant. He is the host of his own YouTube show "Radio Dolin" and podcast "Film History", columnist for "Meduza", author of 15 books about cult directors and the history of cinema.

In Belgrade, Anton will present his program "Big Talk about Cinema". What does cinema mean to us, modern viewers: is it just entertainment or is it still art? Or is it something so profound that it can inevitably influence society and the history of mankind? Anton Dolin will tell us what social and political influence cinema has today, how it changes the world and society, and whether cinema can somehow influence real politics — for example, to ignite or stop a war. The program "Big Talk about Cinema" is also a reflection on whether it is necessary to learn to watch movies, what is the meaning of the Oscar award and what weight European film festivals really have.

In addition, just the other day Anton published a new, 15th book dedicated to cinema: "Bad Russians. Cinema from "Brother" to "Patsan's Word". This new work by Anton Dolin explores the commercial cinematography of Russia under Putin. It is a book, as the author himself defines it, "about how blockbusters have made Russians fall in love with the dream of empire, nurtured nostalgia for the USSR, helped to foment xenophobia and aggression, helped to build a repressive system, and assisted in inciting war".

Anton Dolin: Writing Bad Russians was equally hard and exciting. It required a drastic change of optics, a certain ruthlessness towards my characters and myself. Although I prefer to call it honesty.

The program "Big Talk about Cinema" is all the things you wanted to know about cinema but didn’t have the opportunity to ask Anton Dolin in person.

Save the date. Anton Dolin is coming to Belgrade.
